FR-S / ZN6 / '86'

This has been a long time coming.. but, it’s finally arrived! The 86 is back and ready to recapture the pure enjoyment of driving. It’s not about sheer power, but agility and feel. This car captures that feeling and then some. Featuring a RWD, Front Midship Boxer design & Toyota D-4S fueled engine.

Plans are to drive the piss out of the car.. over time adding wheels/tires, suspension and exhaust. The factory wheels are growing on me but I have tons of 5×100 wheels that could work out on the FR-S.

17×8 Wheels on hand:
Advan Super Racing
Volk C-Ultra
Rays CV Euro
Advan Dirt Comp. Trial

Exhaust & Suspension manufactures:
HKS
GReddy
TEIN

Preliminary build spec - at first; low budget

Postby Chris » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:08 am

Since the release in Japan a few months ago, I've been plotting on where to start modifications. Typically, wheels and tires are first. Followed by exhaust and suspension.

With the factory wheels replaced on day three, that leaves the focus on exhaust and suspension. Most aftermarket companies are still in the final R&D stage. And with the factory suspension being pretty damn good, I'm going to keep it very basic. (for now)

The exhaust is something I usually love replacing. I'm looking at cheap power and response over a high dollar system. I wouldn't mind an HKS Hi-Power catback one bit. However the $1300+ price tag isn't so nice. This build will be on the cheap and light. Later on if I so desire I'll break open the piggy bank..

Here's the current plan:

Exhaust
Nameless Muffler Delete ($99)
Nameless Downpipe ($399)
Midpipe will remain stock. I may decide on the axleback system ($550) at a later date.

Suspension
Tein H-Tech Springs ($180)

It is a wonderful machine to drive. Lightweight and nimble. Adequate power and engine response is better than expected.

Tein H-Tech springs are next on the list to improve handling and to further reduce weight and c/g..

Then.. Nameless muffler delete pipe if it's not obnoxiously loud.. Going to test by removing the factory muffler.
