Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80

Land Cruiser / FZJ80 / ‘(ex)illtuned Support Vehicle’

**edit- now ex-illtuned support vehicle, the Tundra has replaced it as the primary work truck.

Next up for the 80?

Next up for the 80? Some street usage and ‘minor’ off-road build. The idea for this build- ‘stock as stock can be’. Pure simplicity, minor costs, highly effective and high value. This should answer the question of “what can you do with a stock 4×4?” (even though it’s no ordinary 4×4…)

The plan is to fit the 80 with a OME 3/2″ suspension system from our good friends at Man-A-Fre. MAF will also supply the rock rails and brake lines to finish the package. A snorkel may find it’s way onto the 80.. we’ll see what happens.

To Do:

Running boards and possibly the fender flares will be removed

Coolant hose replaced with silicone hose with bastard clamps
Change oil and inspect all fluids
Install gear cube / trail supplies
Install 3rd row seats
Move spare to BajaRack or rear cargo area

Wish List

MAF / OME 3/2 Suspension kit
MAF 4+Plus coil spacer lift
MAF 4+Plus Rock Sliders

The 80 series is coming back out of hibernation. I need something to tow 'Red' around and originally I picked up the 80 to tow the rally car around. So, back to Support Vehicle duties for now. Possibly when I'm done monkeying around with these other toys it may get some trail time.

Plus I really miss driving this rig. It was my first Toyota 4x4 and continues to serve me well.

ok, so I may put on some mud tires just in case.. :)

Getting ready for street duty. Going to "park" the FJ except for trail rides. The 80 will see legitimate use for the first time in years! I miss the old thing. Thanks, Thad for buying a nice pretty 80 to remind me to drive mine!!

How's about a pic Chris? This is one of your only vehicles I have never seen. Either of you 80 guys want a tan Disco cup holder for your 80?

the 80 is on deck to go into the garage.

Need to fix/replace/remove:

Battery
Pesky coolant hose (leaking like crazy now..)
valve cover gasket
running board removal
fender flare removal (optional)
spare tire removal and relocation
general fluid inspection

Well the 315/75-16 (34.6") fit with minor rub at full lock. Otherwise, they look sweet! Climbed up and over the silly little obstacles at the illtuned "off-road testing area" (aka.. the field of death, aka the tabletop of death, aka the boulder of death)! :woot:
